Star City Half and 10K Are Coming Up

Explore Downtown Roanoke in the Star City Half Marathon and 10K on Saturday, Nov. 17.

The race is the final event in the Virginia’s Blue Ridge Triple Crown Series. Runners who participate in this half marathon and ran in the Salem Half Marathon or Foot Levelers Blue Ridge Marathon or half marathon are eligible for the extra medal.

The Star City Half Marathon and 10K starts and finishes on Shenandoah Avenue by the O. Winston Link Museum. The half marathon moves through downtown, onto the Roanoke River Greenway, and loops back to downtown. It includes a few gnarly climbs, including the switchbacks along the greenway past the water treatment plant.

The Star City Half Marathon has a course record of 1:10:32 set in 1997 by Ed Layman.

The 10K features an out-and-back route from downtown onto the greenway around Vic Thomas Park.

The event is hosted on by the Star City Striders, a volunteer group of active individuals who celebrate a running and walking lifestyle. The Star City Striders have been around since the late 1970s as a resource for runners and walkers.
