Here’s another new event happening at Explore Park: Shrewd Archery is hosting a 25-target 3D archery tournament May 24-26.

The event is open to professionals and amateurs and is designed as a fun way for archers and their families to spend a weekend outdoors.

Shrewd 25 kicks off Friday, May 24 and features a Full Draw Film Tour event. On Saturday, May 25, amateur and pro archers will hit the ranges competing for over $25,000 in prize money and the day will conclude with the Brugh Bash concert featuring Adairs Run on Saturday evening following the pro shoot-off event.

Amateur division participants can compete on any or all three days and take their highest score from one of three attempts. The pro division is a one-day competition as well, but it is restricted to Saturday and the qualification round is followed by a shoot-up final comprised of the top six archers in each pro division going head to head for everyone to watch. The top three finishers in each division are guaranteed payout with the pro divisions winning $3,000 for first, $2,000 for second, and $1,000 for third.

There will be a vendor village with manufacturers from within the archery industry as well as local companies. Additionally, the Olde Salem Brugh Garden will be open throughout the weekend pouring select beers from Olde Salem Brewing Company while food trucks will be present offering a variety of food and drinks for purchase.

Explore Park offers camping sites, RV spots, and cabin and yurt rentals for convenient onsite accommodations as well as several hiking and mountain biking trails, river access for fishing or canoeing, and other outdoor activities all within easy driving distance of the Blue Ridge Parkway and downtown Roanoke.

Located in Salem, Shrewd is a family owned business that prides itself on making quality, American made products right in the Roanoke Valley. The Damon Company, which is the parent company of Shrewd Archery, was started by Wayne Herkness II in 1964 and is a third-generation business.
