Pete’s Pick: Ice Skating Season Has Started

There are two ways to glide on the ice all winter in the Roanoke Region.

The Elmwood on Ice outdoor ice skating rink is open daily (excluding Mondays and Tuesdays) through the end of January. (Private Rentals are available Mondays and Tuesdays or outside of normal operating hours.)

Skate or ice slide in the middle of downtown Roanoke. Admission is just $6 and includes unlimited time. Don’t have skates? No problem. Skate rentals are available.

The daily schedule is posted online and there are extended hours on days when Roanoke City Schools are not in session. (Plus, downtown parking in the Elmwood Park Garage is free after 5 p.m. weekdays and all day on the weekend.)

The Berglund Center’s public indoor ice skating season is also underway. Tickets are $6 and skate rentals are available. (You can also reserve a time and skate rental in advance online.)

Skating is open on specific days and times, including theme days such as a Costume Skate on Dec. 10, Christmas Skate on Dec. 20, Rail Yard Dawgs Skate on Jan. 15, Pink in the Rink Skate on Feb. 18, and St. Patrick’s Day Skate on March 17. (You can check the schedule here.)
