Poverty Creek (also known as Pandapas Pond) is one of the area’s premier destinations for single-track mountain biking.

More than 20 miles of trail options, with steep climbs and fast downhills, will keep your heart pounding. There are 17 total trails in the trail system, and it is located right on the border Montgomery and Giles county border.

Distance

  • There is a total of 20 miles of trails, with the longest being the 7.2-mile Poverty Creek Trail.

Hike It, Bike It

  • Most trails are easy to intermediate, however, be sure to check the trail conditions to see if it is too muddy to ride or hike (especially the Poverty Creek Trail).
  • The park is available sunrise to sunset, and there is no fee to use it. Open season is all year around, and there are vault toilets at the trailhead.
  • Fishing ponds are available.

Directions/Parking

  • From Roanoke, take I-81 S to exit 118 B to US-460 W. Continue on 460 W for 11 miles where you will exit on Prices Fork Rd.
  • Turn right onto SR 652 for .5 miles and then turn onto SR 718 for 1.7 mi. Turn left onto SR 655 for half a mile and then turn right into SE 725 for approximately a mile. Take a slight left to stay on SR 725 and continue to the trail site.
  • Parking is available at the trailhead.

Add-On Adventures

  • Float the New River in many different locations throughout the surrounding area and enjoy all that the New River Valley has to offer.
  • Poverty Creek Trail is fairly secluded, but it is not too far away from Blacksburg and Virginia Tech, where you can tour the region’s largest university and catch a sports game for whatever teams are in season.
  • Check out Beliveau Estate Winery, located between Salem and Blacksburg.
