Learn to SUP

stand up paddleboard

It’s never too late to learn to SUP.

Standup paddleboarding is a growing watersport where you stand up on a board and use a paddle to glide across the water.

Roanoke County Parks and Recreation has a class where you can learn everything you need to know to get started with SUP from a certified instructor. The class is May 23 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Carvins Cove, and no experience is necessary.

You’ll get instruction on how to form the proper stance for balance and control, essential paddle strokes, and other techniques. All equipment, leadership, and gear is provided, but participants must be able to swim.
