Join Roanoke Outside at Starr Hill in August

Grab your best float and meet us on the river.

Join the Roanoke Outside gang — and all our outdoor-loving friends — on a Roanoke River float to Starr Hill on Tuesday, Aug. 13 at 6 p.m.

This is a “bring whatever floats” kind of event – inflatable mattresses, giant ducks, SUPs, kayaks, tubes, etc. If you need to rent a tube, reserve one at Roanoke Mountain Adventures. (That’s also the starting point for the float.)

Once we reach Starr Hill, $1 of each pint goes to benefit the Roanoke Outside Foundation. And keep coming back all month for Cheers for Charity, with $1 of every beer on Mondays and Tuesdays in August benefitting Roanoke Outside.

This is a rain or shine outing; float at your own risk. Look at the weather forecast and make your own decision. There will be some “river walking” in the shallow sections. This is the third time we’ve done this floatilla (we recently partnered with Roanoke Parks and Recreation in July) and it gets a little more fun each time.

Note that at current water levels, the float will take 1.5 to 2 hours. You can shorten it by about 30 minutes by putting in just below the Smith Park bridge.

You are in charge of shuttling yourself to and from Starr Hill and RMA, so try partnering with friends or family and park one car in each location.
