GOCX/NCGP Cup Announced

GOCX/NCGP Cup to Award $2,000 to Top Elite Men’s and Women’s Cyclocross Racers

The governing body for internationally sanctioned cyclocross racing, Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), has just added a new option for elite racers.

The 2021 Virginia’s Blue Ridge Go Cross presented by Deschutes Brewery (GOCX) to be held in Roanoke, VA and the UCI North Carolina Grand Prix (NCGP) to be held in Hendersonville, NC have joined forces to provide an incentive called the GOCX/NCGP Cup to the elite racers competing in both events. The two days of GO Cross races, September 18-19, kick off the USA Cycling ProCX calendar and the UCI NCGP will we the last two days of racing, November 20-21, 2021. The GOCX/NCGP Cup will challenge elite racers to be on their top performance at the beginning and the end of the USA Cycling ProCX calendar awarding the $2,000 purse to the top three elite men’s and women’s racers with the lowest combined race time over the four race series.

“The GOCX/NCGP Cup will excite and motivate the elite men’s and women’s racers to enter the Go Cross season opening race with fitness and then keep that all the way through the final race, the NCGP,” said Tim Hopkin, North Carolina Grand Prix promoter.

“We are looking forward to partnering with the NCGP to give elite racers the chance to book end the ProCX Calendar with added incentive,” says Frank Deal, race director for GO Cross. “The cup adds higher stakes for elite riders and will weave an exciting narrative for the 2021 cyclocross season.”

“I am really excited because I’ve never had a series so close to home. The Roanoke venue is now a mile from my front door and the NCGP is the UCI race I’ve done the most times in my career, so to combine both is really special.” said Kerry Werner pro cyclocross racer. “Not to mention I’ve had pretty good luck at both venues in years past!”

Cyclocross is a fast-paced, spectator-friendly cycling discipline that combines road racing and mountain bike skills. The sport requires riders to race over a variety of terrains and at times dismount and run or carry their bikes.

Registration is open for both races at the links below and there is plenty of room for beginner and elite riders to have a great time. Virginia’s Blue Ridge Go Cross presented by Deschutes Brewery will add some extra fun this year with a “bluegrass” theme with costumes encouraged, daily live bluegrass music, a beer relay, food trucks, and vendors making for a wonderful Roanoke weekend celebrating bikes, beer and bluegrass.
