Go Cross 2020 is Perfect for Beginners

go cross 2020

Love your bike? Want to compete or ride in an event and don’t know where to start?

Go Cross – Nov. 14-15, 2020 – is designed for pros and beginners alike.

Registration is live for the socially-distanced cyclocross race at Fallon Park in Roanoke.

COVID-19 has changed some elements of the race from past years. This event is a small, well-organized USA Cycling regional that will allow athletes of all abilities to participate in a low-risk setting.

But all the fun of cyclocross — mud-splattered cyclists running up hills with bikes flung over their shoulders, riders smoothly dismounting, leaping over barriers, then jumping back on – remains. Plus, a beginner race is just 30 minutes. (You’ve got this!)

If you’ve never tried cyclocross before, this is a good place to start.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • You will compete in Category 4/5 is considered beginner with Category 5 being an ultimate beginner and Category 4 having some experience.
  • All racers must have a USA Cycling license to participate in this sanctioned event. If you have registered with USA Cycling for road or mountain bike events within the year, your license will cover all cyclocross events. To learn more about USA Cycling licenses click here.
  • If you are a beginner (Cat 5), you may purchase a one-day license on site for $10 per day.
  • Still not sure, email race organizers and ask. Questions are welcome.
  • COVID-related safety precautions are in place so that you can compete and feel good about it. You can find the protocols here (they may continue to be updated).
