Celebrate with Girls on the Run

It’s taken months of hard work and training. You’re doing something you weren’t sure you could. All cheering makes it worth the journey.

That’s the feeling dozens of middle schoolers from the Roanoke Region will have Saturday, Dec. 7, as they put months of training to the test in the Girls on the Run Fall Celebration 5K.

And you can be a part of it.

The 5K is at Green Hill Park and open to all runners. Or you can just cheer on participants. Day of registration is open on site Saturday, Dec. 7, at Green Hill Park from 7:45 to 8:45 a.m. The 5K starts at 9 a.m.

The course is out and back, flat, and cross-country style (you will be running on pavement and through the grass). There will be one water stop along the course, that runners will pass twice.

Plus, there are plenty of opportunities for supporters to see their runners along the course.

If you can’t make the race, there are other ways to support the organization all month.

Fleet Feet Sports is donating $1 from every pair of Balega, Feetures, CEP Compression and Lily Trotters socks sold to Girls on the Run. Plus, each company is matching that donation for $2 from every pair for Girls on the Run Roanoke.

Girls on the Run works to “inspire girls to recognize their inner strength and celebrate what makes them one of a kind.”

Trained coaches – contact them if you are interested in volunteering – lead small teams through discussions, activities, and running. The 10-week program is for girls in grades 3 through 8 and culminates with a service project and 5K event.
