Gear Review: Bring the Outdoors In with a Desk Bike

flexispot bike desk reviewI never knew I needed a desk bike.

Until I used one for a little while.

The FlexiSpot Deskcise Pro is a little bit desk and a little bit stationary bike. It’s an alternative solution to sitting all day when you are working.

Right out of the box, the desk was easy to assemble – there are just two pieces the bike assembly and the desk top, which slides in and secures with a single screw. Everything is adjustable, including the bike seat and desk height.

There are different settings for resistance so you can pedal as fast (or slow as you like). Just pay attention to your speed because you can work up a sweat before you know it.

One of the best things about the bike design is that it is pretty compact and will fit in your office or could be a great addition to a home office or smaller workspace. I also have a standing desk with a desktop computer and was able to slide the bike desk right under the standing desk with ease. (It’s big enough and sturdy enough to handle my 15-inch laptop with ease.)

And you can get real miles in. I biked off and on one afternoon post-lunch and logged 14 miles. (The most interesting thing I learned about myself while using the FlexiSpot desk is that whenever I started thinking really hard, my feet stopped moving.) I also felt fresh all afternoon and didn’t go reaching for a dose of sugar to get through the second half of the day.

Using the desk bike kept me feeling more active and motivated throughout the workday and even into the evening after work.

Plus, it is quiet so your officemates won’t be annoyed by extra sounds (there’s just a short beep when you start moving) and it has been a real conversation starter.

Everyone has wanted to try it. The biggest issue with bringing the outdoors inside with a desk bike is that everyone will want to roll it to their offices.

What I like about the desk bike is you don’t have to think about it to use it. The workday can get pretty busy, and it provides a way to get in a little active time when things get hectic. Everyone is always talking about how to find work-life balance, and this is one more tool for those days when you can’t get out and ride an actual bike.

The FlexiSpot Deskcise Pro retails for $499. It will be on sale as part of Amazon Prime Day (July 16) with an extra 30 percent off.

Want to do even more good? Buy your desk bike using Amazon Smile and Roanoke Outside gets a portion of the purchase price. (It won’t cost you an extra.)

You can pick Roanoke Outside as your Amazon Smile beneficiary here to support the outdoors with every purchase.

At the end of the day, the bike desk is a solid investment if you want to get in a little more activity while you work. Riding it off and on all day seems to be the best solution (you can also use it as a standing desk). You might just want to turn the AC back a few degrees because you will feel the benefit of a light physical workout while you tackle more mental tasks.
