Do You Know What’s SUP?

Looking for a new hobby to pass the time? Maybe a way to calm nerves? Or even a way to get outside and get some exercise while enjoying the natural beauty of Smith Mountain Lake? Well, you should see what’s SUP!

Stand-up paddleboarding is an activity in which you stand on a board, and use a long paddle to glide elegantly across the water. Not only is it a great way to exercise, but it is also a fantastic way to relieve stress.

If you’re not sure how, or do not know how to become involved, there is a 1.5-hour class starting at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 19 at the Smith Mountain Lake Community Park. You’ll receive one-on-one instruction from a seasoned professional on how to SUP. Just sign up for the class, and you’ll be SUP (ahem) and going in no time!

Mountain 2 Island will provide all of the equipment necessary to participate in one of the most popular outdoor activities in the world. The last day to register is three days before the event. Spots are filling up quickly, so do not miss out on this excellent opportunity to have fun while learning how to participate in a new activity.

There are additional classes held on July 10 and August 7.

Looking for another opportunity to SUP? The next Expand Outside event is Wednesday, July 18 at Explore Park. Come learn to SUP after work. The event gets under way at 6 p.m. and includes instruction, snacks, and beverages. Just make sure to register in advance.
