Trout Unlimited Will Host National Meeting in Roanoke

Anglers from across the United States will be casting their lines in streams across the region in September.

Roanoke will host the Trout Unlimited annual meeting Sept. 27-30. The four-day gathering of Trout Unlimited leaders and member from across the country is a great opportunity to show off the region’s amazing fisheries and growing outdoor culture.

The Roanoke Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited is the host chapter for the annual meeting and while the organization is packed with people who love to fish, you don’t have to be a superior angler to join. Anyone with an interest in the outdoors is welcome.

The local chapter meets monthly. The next meeting is this Wednesday (June 21) and includes guest speaker Bob Crawshaw. Come learn what’s going on in a stream, where and how fish feed, why subsurface flies are almost always more productive. Wet flies can mean the difference between fishing and catching. (Guests are always welcome.)

The Roanoke Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited meets at 7 p.m. at Hollins University, Moody Student Center – Goodwin Room. You don’t have to be a member to attend. Come swap stories, and take home a few new ones. For more information, visit the chapter website, or email David Holladay.

Trout Unlimited is one of a number of national organizations that are hosting meetings in Roanoke. The conference runs from Sept. 27-30 at Hotel Roanoke, and starts with a day of fishing tours hosted by local guides. This is another example of what makes Roanoke a great place to be outdoors.

Trout Unlimited also has a number of other happenings coming up:

  • June 24: Orvis Fly Fishing 101
  • July 20: Camp Alta Mons program
  • September: Women of Trout Unlimited, including college outreach
