Hey, want a beer? Well, 22,000 people did on Saturday, Aug. 27, when the Deschutes Brewery Street Pub in Roanoke broke the record for the nationwide event with 241 kegs of beer poured in one day.

All that drinking raised $81,000 for nine local nonprofits. The Roanoke Outside Foundation put in many hours as the pub’s local organizer and coordinated 278 volunteers who worked the event, including celebrity bartenders, Mike Whiteside and Robert Kulp of Black Dog Salvage, in the VIP Lounge.

Local nonprofits benefiting from all this are the Roanoke Outside Foundation, Blue Ridge Land Conservancy, and Feeding America Southwest Virginia. Other partners were Pathfinders for Greenways, Roanoke IMBA, Clean Valley Council, Leap for Local Food, Family Promise of Greater Roanoke, and Bradley Free Clinic.

The Deschutes crew participated in other events throughout the weekend including a Tinker Creek Greenway cleanup with more than 60 volunteers, a Poker Run with RIDE Solutions, Cyclocross Clinic, and a progressive dinner in Downtown Roanoke.

The success of the Deschutes Street Pub and the money raised is just one more example of how the Roanoke Regional Partnership creates economic impact in the region. Not only will Deschutes Brewery build an $85 million manufacturing facility in the Roanoke, a project that the Partnership worked on for four years, but last week brought about 60 Deschutes employees to local hotels and restaurants. In September, the company will bring 90 employees to town for its annual company-wide sales meeting.  Add it all up and you can see how the Roanoke Regional Partnership is making a difference.

Cheers!
