Roanoke River Greenway at Green Hill Park

The Green Hill Park section of the Roanoke River Greenway is a lovely, level and well maintained greenway space. It is a great spot for a family bike ride, a group jog, or to walk your dog.  This popular greenway is often busy with foot and bike traffic. Time requirments
This short trail will not take up much for your day.  Set aside 45 minutes for a nice leisure pace.  Plan for more time, if your group wants to explore the river or the hiking trails.

Directions to trailhead
West Main Street Salem, past the Wal-mart on your left, head towards Glenvar.  Turn left on Diuguids Lane.  Turn right into Green Hill Park.  parking on the left.

Trail/Trip description
The road is wide and clear.  Watch out for other pedestrians or bike riders.  This is a popular spot.  This mostly level trail is made even more lovely as the Roanoke River trickles gingerly along side you along the greenway.  Along the trail, you may notice blue boxes.  These boxes are created and maintained by a local member of the Virginia Bluebird Society.

Notes/Add-ons
Dixie Caverns is a local spot, often reccomended for out of town guests.  Dixie Caverns offers a pottery store and gift shop.  Head home with a pouch of semi-precious stones or other trinkets.  On a hot summer day, Dixie Carvens in particularly apealing as the underground temperature is always around a cool 55 degrees..
