Pete’s Pick: Roanoke Valley Gives is March 14

Roanoke Valley Gives is March 14. We’d like you to consider a gift to Roanoke Outside this year to support some of our community projects.

Our mission is to make outdoor activity and environmental stewardship a core component of our community’s lifestyle by promoting a “conservation through recreation” philosophy. Here are some of the things that happen with your donations:

  • Built a kayak launch on the Roanoke River
  • Grew the Blue Ridge Marathon and Banff Film Festival
  • Grew the GO Outside Festival (and kept it free!)
  • Kept RoanokeOutside.com up and running (and packed with information)
  • Conducted a feasibility study for an in-river kayak park
  • Shared proceeds with nonprofits that develop our outdoor culture and infrastructure
  • Consulted with outdoor entrepreneurs, businesses, and parks and rec departments
  • Assisting with implementation of Explore Park’s master plan
  • Advocating for more outdoor amenities across the region
  • Started the Outdoor Mentors Program in partnership Big Brothers Big Sisters
  • Conducted a regional outdoor infrastructure needs assessment
  • Support and develop the outdoor lifestyle for business and talent recruitment, which led to Deschutes, Ballast Point, and Humm Kombucha choosing the Roanoke Region for their east coast operations

The great thing about Roanoke Valley Gives is that the day showcases all of the great nonprofits in the region. There are more than 100 groups involved and you should consider multiple donations to each of your favorite groups. (No amount is too small.)

Please donate on March 14. You can actually do it right now; just visit the Roanoke Valley Gives site using the button below and schedule your donation in advance, just make sure the “charge date” is set for March 14. All donations stay right here in the Roanoke Region.
