Pete’s Pick: We Need YOU on Race Weekend

marathon volunteer roanoke

There’s still time to be a part of Foot Levelers Blue Ridge Marathon race weekend … without any training!

Volunteer during the race or at Freedom First Down by Downtown on the weekend of April 18.

More than 600 volunteers make Roanoke’s most prestigious athletic event happen each spring. Thanks to dedicated people LIKE YOU, we have donated over $200,000 to charity and created an economic impact of $5 million in the region.

Volunteering for the marathon or music festival benefits the community in so many ways, making it a healthier and more vibrant place to live. We hope you will join the army of citizens who contribute to “America’s Toughest Road Marathon” on April 18.

Plus, it is a lot of fun! Runners love interacting with volunteers at the start, finish, and along the course. Gather your family members, rally your co-workers, enlist your book club, tailgate with your neighbors and help ensure 2020 is the best year ever.

Race-related jobs include:

  • Course marshals: Marshals are stationed along the entire length of the course to keep runners safe and on the course. They direct runner traffic and cheer runners enthusiastically.
  • Support an aid station: Keep runners hydrated and happy throughout race day.
  • Slow-K setup: These volunteers will help get the course ready for America’s Slowest 5K on Sunday, April 19. Great for early birds!
  • Pour beer during the Down by Downtown Music Festival: Listen to live music and interact with the crowd.
