Pete’s Pick: Iron Fly

Join Trout Unlimited for the next level of fly tying at Ballast Point Brewing Company on April 15.

Iron Fly is not about how great somebody is at tying flies. It is a way to get together, have fun, and show people that fly fishing is not a stuffy way to spend time.

Iron Fly could be described as fly tying meets Iron Chef as tiers “compete” in a battle of partying skills and bobbin prowess to make the ultimate fish snack from the same set of mystery ingredients. Race against your liver and your competitors to show the panel of judges that your vice has the spice.

The idea behind the event is to create an experience that engages new and experience fly-fishers while inspiring them to go outside and get involved.

You don’t have to have a lot of experience to participate and have fun.

Iron Fly begins at 3 p.m. at Ballast Point and goes until about 6 p.m. on April 15. RSVP on Facebook.
