Pete’s Pick: Hike for Hospice

If you need an excuse for a hike, then register for an outing you can feel good about. Hike for Hospice is Sunday, Sept. 10 from 12:30-3:30 p.m. at Explore Park and proceeds benefit Good Samaritan Hospice.

Hike for Hospice includes two different hikes and options for team hikes. Participants will check-in at event registration tent located in the parking lot of the Explore Park Visitor Center. Participants will then choose from two different routes, a 0.3 mile walk or a 1 mile hike, and set off on their own personal hike to the main event area.

  1. The beginner hike takes participants down the Old Salem Turnpike (red blaze) paved path leaving from parking lot A and following it straight to parking lot D. This hike is not strenuous and is approximately 0.3 miles long.
  2. The intermediate hike starts on the Old Salem Turnpike Trail, takes participants along the Old Salem Turnpike (red blaze) leaving from the trail head behind the Arthur Taubman Center, following this loop route for one mile, then transferring onto the River Walk Link (blue blaze) for .1 mile, and ending at parking lot D.

Registration includes an event t-shirt, hiking bag, directions, and a wrist band. Hikers will also get to hear live bluegrass from the Easter Divide Band, have lunch and games, and take part in option excursions led by Walkabout Outfitter. There is also a raffle and VIP farm-to-table dinner option.
