Pete’s Pick: Come Volunteer with Me

street pub volunteer

Don’t make me beg.

We still need a few great, beer-loving, friendly volunteers for the Deschutes Street Pub on July 15. This is a great opportunity to come out and see your friends and neighbors while helping support nonprofits in our community. I’ll be pouring beer and hope that you’ll join me in one of many roles throughout the day.

This is an event that means a lot to me because the Roanoke Outside Foundation is one of four beneficiaries of the event. (Last year the Street Pub in Roanoke raised $81,000 for nonprofits!) This year the featured nonprofits are Blue Ridge Land Conservancy, Bradley Free Clinic, Pathfinders for Greenways, and Roanoke Outside.

The Street Pub is free and is a giant, family-friendly one-stop shop for beer tastings. Deschutes Brewery will have more than 50 taps with plenty of brews to taste, including favorites and special taps. The craft beer event will also include culinary creations from Deschutes Executive Chef, Jeff Usinowicz, and a couple of local chefs and there will be plenty of live music from local bands!

The first kegs will be tapped at 2 p.m. and last call happens at 10 p.m.

But none of it can happen without your help. The Street Pub relies on the support of volunteers to keep costs down so that more money can be donated to nonprofits. There are a variety of jobs available, beginning with an 8:30 morning shift and running through the breakdown after last call. One of the most fun jobs might just be pouring beer; volunteers always say it’s a great experience.

Volunteering with friends is more fun. And make sure to note in the form that you are volunteering with Roanoke Outside.
