Mill Mountain Star Trail traverses from the Roanoke River to Roanoke's highest point - the summit of Mill Mountain (1703 ft.) and the Roanoke Star. This area offers 500 acres of parkland atop Mill Mountain, picnic areas, two overlooks that provide 20-60 mile vistas, access to additional hiking trails, the Mill Mountain Zoo and the Mill Mountain Discovery Center.

Directions to Trailhead

Take I-581 to Elm Ave. / Rt. 24 (Exit 6)
Turn onto Elm Ave. /Rt. 24E (heading away from downtown)
Follow Elm Ave. to 9th St. and turn right
Follow 9th St. across bridge to Riverland Rd. and turn left
Follow ~0.2 miles to road on right with Mill Mountain Star Trail sign
Turn right and go up hill to parking lot on left

Trail Description

From the parking lot follow the signs uphill along the road
The road ends and the trail continues through the woods
Cross J.B. Fishburn Parkway
Ascend to the top of Mill Mountain and the viewing platform next to the star
Retrace your steps for the return trip
