Waid Recreation Area is a 220-acre facility located near Rocky Mount, along the site of the Old Carolina Wagon Trail. The park is nestled near the Pigg River, which is home of the “Pigg River Ramble.”
More than 400 acres of rolling terrain and creek crossings make this area great for beginners and more experienced hikers and bikers. The location also hosts various special events and athletic leagues.
Chaos Mountain Brewing is located in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of southwest Virginia, in Franklin County.
The tasting room features a combination of packaged products as well as some small batch brews totaling six to 10 different styles at any time. Chaos Mountain is dedicated to producing the best possible beer from the best available ingredients. From easy drinking session beers to big, intense Belgian style ales, there is something that just about everyone will enjoy.
One note if you plan to visit the brewery and are coming from 221 Bent Mountain, do not follow GPS over the gap.
The brewery is open Thursday through Sunday.
Brooks Mill Winery is a small farm fruit winery operated by H.T. and Rhonda Page near SMith Mountain Lake in Franklin County, Virginia. We have been making fruit wine as a hobby for more than 16 years.
From dry dinner wines to sweet dessert wines, Brooks Mill has a wine for you. The winery also has several award-winning wines, including the popular Blackberry (Fingerlakes Wine Competition bronze medal), Blueberry (Fingerlakes Wine Competition gold medal), and Pear dessert wine (Fingerlakes Wine Competition bronze medal).
The winery also grows blueberries, pears, apples, peaches, and cherries.
The tasting room is open Thursday through Monday from March to December; call for hours the rest of the year.
Franklin County-based running group plans weekly runs, an annual run from Rocky Mount to Ferrum College (CR10) and the Crooked Road 24 Hour Ultra (CR24) at Waid Park. Group also hosts social events. The CRRC is an RRCA affiliated club.
