Secluded in a hollow of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Flying Mouse Brewery focuses on the experience and enjoyment of craft beer as part of an active outdoor lifestyle, whether it be a cold draft after a long hike or a pint over conversation at dinner after a day of cycling.

The brewery is accessible to Appalachian Trail hikers (less than half a mile from the trail) and for cyclists traveling along the TransAmerica 76 Bicycle route, which rolls past the brewery entrance.

The tasting room and beer garden are open Friday through Sunday. Beer is available for take away in Flying Mouse Bullet growlers and packable beer pouches.

    Big Lick Brewing Company is Roanoke’s only nano brewery and taproom that is “specializing in craft beer with an emphasis on quality and variety.” What’s different about Big Lick is that you will seldom find the same beer on two different visits.

    You might find anything from a cream ale to IPA to porter at any given time.

    The taproom is open Thursday through Saturday. You can grab a stool right next to the 2bbl brewing system. Bring your growler for a fill-up to go.

    The tasting room is open Sundays and Mondays from 2-8pm, CLOSED TUESDAYS, and open Wednesdays through Saturdays from Noon-8:30pm.

  • Soaring Ridge Craft Brewers Expand Collapse

    Soaring Ridge Craft Brewers opened in Downtown Roanoke in 2014 and features a mix of styles including Kolsch, Belgian white, IPA, APA, nut brown ale, porter, and seasonal specialties.

    The brewery is just four blocks from Hotel Roanoke and the Roanoke City Market. Stop by to sample what’s new or hang around for the weekly cornhole tournaments or live music in the tasting room.

    Twin Creeks Brewing Company is Vinton and Roanoke County’s first micro-brewery. The brewery has plenty of options on tap from blonde ales to IPAs to porters. The brewery also has food trucks and live music on site. Extra parking at Vinton Farmer’s Market, Between the farmer’s market and post office, and Vinton Library (after hours).

    Nestled in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains, Fincastle Vineyard & Winery produces wines using traditional Bordeaux small scale techniques. From the vines of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Chardonnay come wines pressed gently and aged in oak.

    The winery opened in 2003 with a special emphasis on quality and according to the Virginia Wine Guide “Fincastle’s 2001 reds are beautifully handcrafted blockbuster wines, dark, lush and intensely flavored.”

    You can see the vineyard from the Blue Ridge Parkway at Milepost 100. And the winery is pet-friendly. Fincastle Winery is part of the Wine Trail of Botetourt County.

    The winery is open year round, Thursday though Monday.
