Secluded in a hollow of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Flying Mouse Brewery focuses on the experience and enjoyment of craft beer as part of an active outdoor lifestyle, whether it be a cold draft after a long hike or a pint over conversation at dinner after a day of cycling.
The brewery is accessible to Appalachian Trail hikers (less than half a mile from the trail) and for cyclists traveling along the TransAmerica 76 Bicycle route, which rolls past the brewery entrance.
The tasting room and beer garden are open Friday through Sunday. Beer is available for take away in Flying Mouse Bullet growlers and packable beer pouches.
Big Lick Brewing Company was Roanoke’s first nano brewery and taproom; while it has grown the idea that it is “specializing in craft beer with an emphasis on quality and variety” has not. You might find anything from a cream ale to IPA to porter at any given time.
The taproom is open Wednesday through Saturday. Bring your growler for a fill-up to go.

Ober Brewing Company is a family-owned micro-brewery and taproom, focusing on sourcing as many local ingredients as possible, to create high quality enjoyable craft beer. Dave Ober studied brewing at the Siebel Institute of Technology in Chicago and has been homebrewing for about a decade.
Parkway Brewing Company is a 4 vessel, 30 bbl micro-brewery with a 17,000 barrel capacity, in Salem, Virginia, specializing in distinctive ales for the discriminating beer enthusiast. Founded in 2012, Parkway Brewing offers several beers exclusively on-site, as well as flagship beers sold in bottles and kegs throughout Virginia.
Random live music, from old-time bluegrass to blues and rock, and a variety of food trucks make this a destination for weary travelers who need a break from driving on Interstate 81. A casual, low-key vibe, along with some stellar brews keep the locals coming back for more. Soaring Ridge Craft Brewers opened in Downtown Roanoke in 2014 and features a mix of styles including Kolsch, Belgian white, IPA, APA, nut brown ale, porter, and seasonal specialties.
The brewery is just four blocks from Hotel Roanoke and the Roanoke City Market. Stop by to sample what’s new or hang around for the weekly cornhole tournaments or live music in the tasting room.

Twin Creeks Brewing Company is Vinton and Roanoke County’s first micro-brewery. The brewery has plenty of options on tap from blonde ales to IPAs to porters. The brewery also has food trucks and live music on site. Extra parking at Vinton Farmer’s Market, Between the farmer’s market and post office, and Vinton Library (after hours).

Nestled in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains, Fincastle Vineyard & Winery produces wines using traditional Bordeaux small scale techniques. From the vines of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Chardonnay come wines pressed gently and aged in oak.
The winery opened in 2003 with a special emphasis on quality and according to the Virginia Wine Guide “Fincastle’s 2001 reds are beautifully handcrafted blockbuster wines, dark, lush and intensely flavored.”
You can see the vineyard from the Blue Ridge Parkway at Milepost 100. And the winery is pet-friendly. Fincastle Winery is part of the Wine Trail of Botetourt County.
The winery is open year round, Thursday though Monday.
The Botetourt County Horseman’s Association is designed to promote interest in breeding and showing of horses, to promote better horsemanship, to offer educational opportunities and social activities, and to stimulate interest in the equine and local equine activities and events.
The group meets monthly and maintains an active Facebook group.

Trail Running training program that lasts six weeks and concludes with a social run for everyone. (There is also a 3-week training option.) The sessions will help you learn how to navigate trails and terrain, how to stay injury-free, and how to “think like a trail runner.”
