Whether it’s cross county skiing, ice skating, or snowboarding, a winter adventure is not far away from the Roanoke Region.
When the conditions are just right, you can find excellent cross country skiing opportunities hidden throughout the region. When it snows, the Blue Ridge Parkway will be closed to vehicles but open to skiers. Another hidden gem is Mountain Lake. It sits just above 4,000 feet of elevation and tends to attract and hold snow longer than any other area.
The Berglund Center has indoor ice skating sessions during the winter months. The schedule varies and it is best to check out their calendar for available ice skating days and times.
Snow skiing is popular activity for residents of the Roanoke Region as well. There are plenty of ski resorts and mountains all within a short drive.
Beech Mountain includes 15 ski slopes and is 193 miles from Roanoke in Beech Mountain, North Carolina.
Bryce Resort is an eight-slope facility in Bayse, about 144 miles from Roanoke.
