Happy birthday to us, happy birthday to us, happy birthday Roanoke Outside … happy birthday to us.

That's right. Three years ago today we launched the full version of RoanokeOutside.com - and what a ride it's been. But none of it would be possible without the support and contribution of people like you … and for that we thank you.

One of our goals is to continually connect our community with the outdoors. Here are a few highlights from 2012:

Many more miles (and bridges) added to our growing Greenway network.
More than 8,500 people attended the 2nd annual GO Outside Festival making it a resounding success.
Roanoke voted “Best Mountain Town” by Blue Ridge Outdoors magazine.
Radical Reels Film Festival & Expo raised 591 pounds of food donation for Feeding America. The 2013 film festival is Sept. 11.
Carvins Cove improved the manner in which users pay the access fee.
Several new outdoor businesses opened their doors including Underdog Bikes, QRide, Confluence Outfitters, and James River Outdoor Center.
River Rock Climbing gym is being built and is slated to open in February.
East Coasters Bike Shop bought the former Virginia Transportation Museum building in Wasena Park and will renovate and move into that new location this year.
Six Eleven Bicycle Co. won yet another award from the North American Handmade Bicycle Show.
The Foot Levelers Blue Ridge Marathon (America’s Toughest Road Marathon) had another banner year, and to-date has a local economic impact totaling more than $1 million.
