Gallop 4 the Greenways Adds Triathlon

Circle it on your calendars: May 13.

Gallop 4 the Greenways just got better. This year, in addition to the 4 mile run there will be a triathlon with team and individual divisions.

Here’s how the triathlon will break down:

  • The first leg is 4.3 mile run on greenway from Rivers Edge to Bridge Street then back to Memorial Bridge.
  • The second leg is paddling (single person, any type of craft) from Memorial Bridge, 2.7 miles to The Bridges takeout.
  • The final leg is road biking up to the top of Mill Mountain and then down Fishburn Parkway and back to Rivers Edge.

And the footrace that’s always been a part of Gallop for the Greenways will also take place on the same day. Run options include the 4-mile gallop along the Roanoke River Greenway (starting and finishing at Vic Thomas Park), a kids fun run, and 1.5 mile greenway walk.

Both events are part of a fundraising event to support the growing network of pedestrian and bike trails in the Roanoke Region. This year’s event marks the 20th anniversary of the creation of the Roanoke Valley Greenway Commission and Pathfinders for Greenways.

Registration will open soon for both events.
