First Aid for Outdoor Adventurers

outdoor first aid

If you like to play outside, there’s no doubt you’ve had a small injury or two. But did you know what to do?

Carilion Clinic and the VT Wilderness Medicine Fellowship are offering a free Wilderness First Aid Clinic at Soaring Ridge Craft Brewers on Thursday, July 20 at 6 p.m. Learn how to stay safe outside while enjoying a cold craft beer and dinner from Lette’s Eat.

The session is designed for anyone who enjoys the outdoors. It is a family-friendly event and participants will get a free mini first aid kit.

Here’s what you can expect to learn:

  • Water safety and drowning prevention
  • How to identify and deal with sprains, strains, and fractures
  • Bleeding control and wound care
  • What to do if you come across snakes, bees, or bears

All of the instructors are outdoors enthusiasts and have a broad range of experience with recreation locally and around the world. Carilion Clinic and the VT Wilderness Medicine Fellowship have been working together in a relatively new partnership to provide wilderness medicine education opportunities for the last year with a goal to expand as outdoor recreation in the community continues to grow. The program is made possible by the Carilion Clinic Foundation.
