The Roanoke Region is home to plenty of farm-to-table options to help you find the freshest food available from fruits and vegetables to plants and fresh bread to meat and even seafood brought to you from local vendors who visit the coast weekly.

Friends of the Farmers Market is a voluntary group of citizens who provide support to the Blacksburg Farmers Market and local community through development, educational programs about benefits of locally grown food and sustainable agriculture, as well as special events that enhance its role as a community gathering place with in the region. The Blacksburg Farmers Market is open April 1 through Oct. 31 on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Wednesdays from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Located at the Catawba Community Center near The Homeplace Restaurant and General Store. Open Thursdays from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. during the spring and summer, the market features locally-grown vegetables, herbs, flowers, honey, gourds, fruit and nuts, plants, meats, eggs, jams, baked goods, and ready-to-eat foods. Local residents also offer a varied selection of crafts ranging from baskets, jewelry, pottery, locally produced cookbooks, framed photography, and more.
The Covington Farmers Market is open May through the middle of October. This market is for growers of vegetables, produce, fruit and plants. Open Wednesdays from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The market is located on the corner of Route 60 and Main Street in downtown Covington.
Farm to Table Roanoke is a farm and craft market with the highest quality and widest variety of produce in the region. Located at Greenbrier Nurseries, Roanoke’s 2015 Small Business of the Year. Farm to Table is expanding production offers events (check Facebook) and a community support agriculture program (CSA). The market is open Thursdays from noon to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Grandin Village Farmers Market is located in the parking lot behind the Roanoke Co+op.
Hours are: mid-April through mid-November, 8 am to noon. December through March, the market meets on the third Saturday of the month, from 10 am to 1 pm.
Recipients of SNAP, Pandemic-EBT, WIC, and Medicaid will receive an additional dollar to spend on fresh fruits and vegetables for every dollar they spend at market. Stop by the Market Manager’s tent before shopping to receive tokens that are used as cash to pay each vendor.
The Grandin Village Farmers Market features 100% local goods with an emphasis on organic, sustainable, and humane producers, products, and practices. All products are produced within 100 miles of the market, with the exception of regional seafood from Virginia and North Carolina waters (only if the vendor is local) and coffee (only if the roaster is local).
Shop from more than two dozen farmers and food producers featuring certified and non-certified organic veggies, fruit, herbs, seasonal seedlings, cheese, pasture raised/grass-fed chicken, eggs, beef, pork, and lamb, regional seafood, locally roasted coffee, artisan homemade breads, muffins, baked goods, hot-prepared foods, hand-crafted pottery, and fresh-cut flowers.

The Historic Roanoke City Market is open year-round, seven days a week, and closes only on Christmas and New Year’s Day. There are 42 permanent tables with an inviting display of fresh fruits, vegetables, flowers, and plants during growing season. There are additional spaces in Market Square for vendors. In recent years, a number of artisans have joined the farmers and planters offering handcrafted items, unique jewelry, and other art objects.
The Farmers Market at Citizen Square is at the heart of historic downtown Rocky Mount and the gateway to the Crooked Road, Virginia’s Heritage Music Trail. The market is surrounded by unique shops, Franklin County’s main library and an abundance of Rocky Mount history. The market is open Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. and features a variety of fresh produce, home baked goods, arts, crafts, plants, fresh cut flowers, honey, greenery, jams, jellies, and other seasonal items. The Farmers Market is also used for special events and many of the festivals and events held in Rocky Mount.
The Salem Farmers Market is located in the heart of Salem’s downtown district on the corner of Main and Broad streets. Special events are held throughout the season which promote the market, its vendors, and the downtown in general. The summer Chef’s Circle program features some of the area’s top chefs presenting free cooking demonstrations. Fresh produce, home-baked goodies, fresh cut flowers, honey, eggs, greenery, jams, and jellies are just a few of the things that you might find.
The Seasonal Farmers Market is open from March through September. Thursdays – Saturdays; Open 9 a.m.- 4 p.m.
Since 1988, the Vinton Farmers Market has provided a convenient location for local farmers to sell fresh produce, home-made baked goods, jam, jellies, greenery, handmade crafts, flowers, and plants. The Vinton Farmers Market features 24 covered stalls with tables for vendors and 44 free parking spaces for customers. The market area also features a permanent stage for concerts and special events.
The West End Farmers Market is located in the covered pavilion behind Freedom First Credit Union’s Patterson Avenue location.
