Fall Waterways Cleanup is Coming Up

waterways cleanup

Can you spare a couple of hours on Saturday, Oct. 3?

Teams and individuals from all over the region will work together to clean streams, creeks, and rivers in the area during the annual Clean Valley’s Fall Waterways Cleanup. The event sponsored by the Clean Valley Council is an easy opportunity for you to give back.

Since 2001, volunteers have collected over 275 tons of litter and countless tires from our waterways. Commonly found items include bottles, cans, cigarette butts, bait cans, and plastic bags as well as some more unusual items such as bikes, a DeSoto hubcap, diapers, a full furniture suite, toys, refrigerators, and more.

This is a “surf and turf” event so you may choose to work in your neighborhood, park, or special site if you can’t work near a stream or river.

All the bags, gloves, and materials you need will be provided.

This year, the cleanup is a little different. With COVID-19 guidelines frequently evolving, volunteers should be as safe as possible. Please limit your volunteer group to people who are in your daily life or “social bubble.”  Please wear face coverings and gloves, use hand sanitizer, and wash hands as often as possible.

Here’s all you need to do: Pick a location and register.

New this year: You can also buy shirts to support the event.
