“Go Batty with Bat-houses!”-Build you own bat house and save a bat with the Blue Ridge Land Conservancy

ROANOKE-The Blue Ridge Land Conservancy is hosting its 7th Outdoor Adventure event of the summer on October 14rd, 2017 at Mill Mountain Picnic Shelter in Roanoke, VA.

October is the perfect time to think about bats! Give them a cool place to live by making your own bat box! Bats are often considered a “keystone species” and without their pollination and seed-dispersing services, some ecosystems could gradually collapse. They also help humans by eating irritating insects! Bats can eat upto 1,500 mosquitos in one night. Sadly, in the past several years, they have struggled against fungal infections and habitat loss.

We will be constructing bat-boxes on Saturday, October 14th which you can take home to create bat habitat in your back yard! The cost is $10 per box. Just bring safety goggles and a hammer, and we will provide the rest!

Meet under the shelter atop Mill Mountain, just off Fishburn Parkway in Roanoke.

The time is from 1 P.M. to 3 P.M.
