Disc Golf and Events for Everyone in Commonwealth Games

The Subway Commonwealth Games are back this weekend and if you play disc golf, this is an opportunity to show off those skills at one of the area’s newest courses.

The site for this year’s statewide competition the new Greenfield Disc Golf Course. The course has 18 scenic holes, and you can preview each before the event online.

The event is open to any amateur disc golfer with divisions for juniors (under age 16), amateurs, advanced amateurs, and masters (over 35), but is limited to 72 participants. Registration is $32 and you can register online or in person before the event.

Disc golf is not the only event taking place in the Roanoke Region this weekend. The Commonwealth Games lineup includes more than 50 events for athletes of all ages. Among the outdoor events lineup are BMX, canoeing, kayaking, running, and paddleboarding.

The weekend of sports kicks off with the opening ceremony on Friday at Salem Red Sox Stadium and continues throughout the weekend. Registration for many of the events is still open.
