Blue Ridge Wildflower Society

The Blue Ridge Wildflower Society
A chapter of the Virginia Native Plant Society
The wildflower society is a diverse group of gardeners and nature enthusiasts who enjoy learning and teaching about native plants.
The group hosts many activities and projects, such as:
- Free meetings monthly (except June, July, December, and January) providing informative programs concerning a variety of areas and plants they support.
- Free field trips, both local and long distance, to a wide variety of habitats.
- Encouraging appropriate use of native plants in public landscapes and private gardens
- Working for measures to protect endangered plant species and preserve habitats.
- Providing scholarships to local students going into the botanical or related fields of study.
- Conducting a native plants sale at the Virginia Western Community College Arboretum on the Saturday before Mothers Day.
- Providing outreach programs to local civic groups.
- Donating money to groups that promote our purpose.
The group usually meets on the fourth Monday of the month at 7 p.m. at Roanoke Church of Christ at 2606 Brandon Ave. in the Grandin/Raleigh Court area. The meetings last about an hour and a half. Refreshments are served at all meetings and visitors are always welcome.
