Bicycle Clubs & Groups
The Roanoke Region is blessed with the best mountain bike trails and best road cycling in the nation. From Carvins Cove and Douthat State Park to the Blue Ridge Parkway and the back roads of Franklin County you are sure to find the ride that is right for you. Below are a few cycling organizations that can connect you with other riders and trails/routes.
Roanoke Cycling Organization
The Roanoke Cycling Organization (RCO) is a cycling group based out of Roanoke, representing those who have a passion for the sport. The RCO focuses on racing, riding, training, education and event promotion. Their philosophy attracts those with a passion for the sport, who understand the impact of cyclists behavior on and off the road, who seek continuing education from bike handling to maintenance techniques, and wish to get involved in all forms of bicycle racing and promotion. The RCO is also the home for a pro/amateur cycling team focusing on both on and off-road disciplines. Spotlight events include the ID3 and the RMBC races - both of which are also Commonwealth Games qualifiers. Blue Ridge Bicycle Club
The purposes of The Blue Ridge Bicycle Club, Inc. are to promote and encourage the use of the bicycle for transportation and recreation in Southwest Virginia; to support the rights of cyclists; to provide information in the interest of bicycling safety; and to promote competitive cycling. From trail access to helmet laws, the BRBC is strongly active in all advocacy issues. The club has been responsible for helping open up trail access at Carvin’s Cove, build trails for Explore Park, begin the construction of Greenways, sponsor local amateur racing with the Team BRBC, gain improvements on Roanoke Valley roadways, organize bicycle rodeos to teach kids bike safety and passed a helmet law for kids under the age of 14 in Roanoke City. But the work is never done. The Roanoke Valley needs more road improvements, trail access and bicycle awareness, so become a member and support the cause!
Junior Cycling Team
East Coaters Bicycles and the Blue Ridge Bicycle Club partnered to form a Junior Cycling Team. The purpose of this team is to give youth an organized and viable outlet in which they can experienc ethe joys of cycling in Roanoke. Kids ages 10-18 are provided weekly group rides and training every Wednesday evening with rotating locations. You do not have to be a team member to join them on a ride.
New River Bicycle Association
The New River Valley Bicycling Association’s mission is to create a better
community through and for bicycling in the New River Valley. The New River Valley Bicycling Association (NRVBA) is dedicated to providing bicycle activities to promote health, recreation, and transportation and working through education and advocacy to promote a more bicycle friendly environment. From weekly rides to discounts at local bike shops, memberhsip in the New River Bicycle Association has its priviledges.
Blacksburg Bicycle Cooperative (BBC)
Located on Glade Road in Blacksburg, the cooperative is here to help fix bikes thanks to our volunteer mechanics, get people set up on bikes that we build from donated parts and frames, and to empower individuals to fix their own bikes using our tools. All these things are done with the focus of helping to support the cycling community here in Blacksburg and encourage cycling as a healthy, alternative means of transportation.
Grassroots Cycling Team
Grassroots Cycling was started on the simple concept of friends enjoying the outdoors on a bike. Today the team is open to riders of all abilities. From riders racing in the expert division to those just getting started in the sport, all are welcome. We currently have members from Virginia, West Virginia and North Carolina. Like the team members, Grassroots has a number of sponsors who share our vision and support our quest to have fun on two wheels. With a successful season of races and group rides under our belt Grassroots Cycling is looking forward to the coming year of fun rides, tough races, and new members. ![]()
