Adventure Sunday Coming Up at Explore Park

Celebrate the season opening of the Blue Ridge Parkway Visitor Center, with a free day of family activities, music, crafts, nature education, food and more.

Learn about the natural world with interpretive hikes and wild animal shows at Adventure Sunday at Explore Park on April 15.

Get an exclusive preview of exciting new amenities coming soon to the park including overnight camping, horseback riding, a bike skills park and an aerial adventure course. Plus meet some of the business partners helping to make Explore Park an outdoor adventure destination. Participate in a scavenger hunt for prizes. Relax to the music of the Falling Creek Bluegrass Band, and enjoy tasty treats from Wake&Bacon Food Truck and Fresh Baked Pop Up Bakery.

The event is free and fun for all ages.

Scheduled Activities

• 9 a.m. – Bird walk with Roanoke Valley Bird Club
• 10:30 a.m. – Tree identification hike with VA master naturalist
• 1 p.m. – Reptile show: sadler’s snails, shells, and tails
• 1 p.m. – Forest ecosystems interpretive hike with Roanoke master naturalist
• 1-3 p.m. – Visits with an opossum, screech owl, and red-tailed hawk by SW Virginia Wildlife Center
• 2-4 p.m. – Wedding and facility tental tours
• 2:30 p.m. – Wildflower hike with Blue Ridge Wildflower Society
