2 Reasons to Try Climbing

Have you wanted to try rock climbing but struggled to find just the right opportunity?

Then you are in luck. There are two chances to try climbing coming up.

  • Walls Are Meant For Climbing Day on Saturday, Aug. 19: Climbing is free for anyone who wants to try it from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at The River Rock. The climbing gym has teamed up with The North Face, USA Climbing, and over 40 climbing gyms globally to offer free climbing opportunities. No experience necessary. For every person who checks-in on Aug. 19, The North Face will make a $5 donation (up to $50,000) to Paradox Sports, an organization committed to making climbing accessible to people with physical disabilities.
  • River Rock Youth Team Tryouts on Tuesday, Aug. 29: This one is for the young climbers. The competitive climbing team will represent the River Rock in USA Climbing regional events. Tryouts are free and are welcome to youth of all ability levels to participate.

Both events are sponsored by River Rock Climbing, an indoor climbing gym that’s has a goal to be the hub of the Roanoke Region’s climbing community by providing incredible climbing, instruction, and service to complete beginners and seasoned experts alike. The gym is located at 806 Wasena Avenue.
